Having acknowledging a request for the provision of allotments, Rio Tinto were approached for suitable land.

In July 2013, after much negotiating, the present site was gifted to the Parish Council, subject to the providers rules and regulations.

Pathways were excavated and a 100 tons of road plainings were used to form the paths. In conjunction with this work the water pipes were laid for the stand pipes, this work being completed in summer 2014 and the water supply eventually connected.

Palastade fencing was acquired and erection completed by December 2013. Two containers were donated and deployed for storage of equipment, fixtures and for the sale of gardening requisites.

After persistent rain, work was eventually started on the plots, with sheds and greenhouses appearing in abundance. Internal fencing is now completed on the allotment site.

An eco-toilet, high beds for the disabled, a community garden and benches were installed.

Appreciation and gratitude must be afforded to UK Coal, County Councillor Milburn Douglas, Ellington & Linton Parish Council, ISOS and Banks Group for their financial assistance and the volunteers who dedicated their services to achieve the fruition of the project.
